Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers about what this site is, how the review process works, and common Massachusetts benefits questions for senior care employers.
What is Senior Care Health Insurance Solutions?
SC-HIS is an educational resource for Massachusetts senior care employers — nursing homes, assisted living, home health, hospice, adult day health, and aging-services organizations. It's operated by Apex Benefits Partners.
What is this site not?
SC-HIS is not an insurance company, not an Association Health Plan, and not a pooled-risk arrangement. We don't sell a single one-size-fits-all product — we help you compare real options based on your actual situation.
How does the employer benefits review process work?
You submit a short form with basic details about your organization, current carrier, and biggest challenge. We follow up to understand your workforce and renewal timing, then walk you through options that actually fit — recruiting, retention, cost control, or all three.
Is there a cost or obligation to request a review?
No. A benefits review is a conversation, not a commitment. There's no cost or obligation to explore your options with us.
How do the BCBS PPO/EPO changes affect my renewal?
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has confirmed it will discontinue all PPO and EPO plans in the merged market after 2026, effective at renewal beginning January 1, 2027, for groups with 1-50 full-time employees. If you're on a BCBS PPO or EPO today, you'll need to transition to an HMO or another plan type. See BCBS Massachusetts for details.

Is GLP-1 coverage required in Massachusetts?
No. There is no Massachusetts law mandating private or commercial insurer coverage of GLP-1 medications for weight loss. In fact, the state is narrowing its own coverage — the GIC ends GLP-1 weight-loss coverage effective July 1, 2026, and MassHealth drops obesity-only-indication coverage effective July 3, 2026. See GLP-1 & Weight Health for more.

How do menopause or women's health benefits get added to an existing plan?
Many women's health benefits — menopause resources, fertility navigation, lactation support — can be layered onto an existing medical plan through carrier programs, EAP add-ons, or point-solution vendors, without necessarily requiring a full plan change. We'll review what your current carrier already offers before recommending anything new.
Who is this site for?
Owners, administrators, HR leaders, and benefits decision-makers at Massachusetts nursing homes, assisted living communities, home health agencies, hospice programs, adult day health programs, Councils on Aging, elder service agencies, and senior housing organizations.
What size employers do you work with?
We work with organizations of many sizes, from very small groups exploring the Health Connector to larger employers evaluating a captive like InCap. See Your Options for the range of paths available.
